Ever wished you could just pick a dermatologist’s brain to know what to do for flawless skin? But since you don’t have any doctor visit-worthy skin issues, you are in a constant state of mulling over?

I was in the same position not so long ago. I was not looking for the textbook answers which dermatologists tend to give to their patients, I was looking for something they share with their close friends. So, I interviewed over 20 Dubai dermatologists and requested them to share some of the best skin care tips and tricks. The answer? Some of it was shocking and some were brilliantly simple.

Ready to uncover the best skin care tips that doctors swear by? Let’s dive in.

1. Egg Yolk Facelift

It sounded weird to me too! But as it turns out, dermatologists use raw egg’s yolk as an instant DIY facelift. Apparently, the high amount of lipids and vitamins in the yolk immensely hydrates the skin and boosts elasticity, leaving your skin naturally plump.

What do you have to do:

  • Separate the yolk from egg white and whisk it

  • Apply a thin layer on your face and wait for 10 minutes for it to dry

  • Rinse with lukewarm water

2. Rose Water > Overly Expensive Toner

For a beginner who is overwhelmed with choices, there is one natural skin care product that every dermatologist swears by - Rose water.

It is anti-inflammatory, known to lower redness, and keep the skin’s PH-level well balanced. The only effort you have to make? Keep a bottle in the fridge and mist your face everytime you feel it getting flaky or dry. Yes, it’s that easy.

Wondering which rose toner they love? Now Rosewater Rejuvenating Mist

3. Converting Sheet Masks into Strips

Sheet masks are great! But do we really have the time to sit still for 20 minutes and wait for it to get absorbed? Dermatologist’s trick:  cut sheet masks into strips and apply them where needed. It can be your under eye, jawline, or even the dry patches.

Pro tip: You can even use the sheet masks under the eye as a shield against eyeshadow fallout!

4. The Ice Cube Trick

Ice therapy was hands-down the most common among the list of organic skin care

Here’s how you can do the easy and cheap skin care trick.

  • Wrap in an ice cube in thin cloth and rub it over your entire face in small circular motions.

  • Focus on the areas which are highly prone to puffiness like your jawline or eye area.

  • Do this for 2-3 minutes before applying your makeup as it will help with better absorption.

Want to avoid the hassle? Dunk your face in a bowl full of ice for that instant perk-up

5. Sugar is Bad for Your Skin

While we all already know that sugar is bad for your health, according to dermatologists, it can do your skin a lot of damage as well. Scientifically, high amount of sugar intake causes glycation, which, in turn, weakens your collagen and speed up aging.

For people looking to delay aging and leep a youtful skin, dermatalogists suggest replacing processed sugar with berries, nuts, and dark chocolate.

It doesn’t get more organic skin care than this.

6. Sun is Not the Villian that We Are Made to Believe

I know it sounds controversial but here’s what the dermatologists had to say. We have been told to never step out in the sun without the protectant sunscreen layer, but a tiny bit of daily sun exposure can be great for your skin!

It can help with

  • Boosting Vitamin D production

  • Killing acne-causing bacteria

  • Regulate body’s clock for better sleep

The catch? Keep the exposure under 5 minutes, then wear your sunscreen.

7. Micellar Water is Not a Cleanser

Many people, including me, treat micellar water as facial cleanser. But in reality, it leaves a residue behind! Which you then need to clean off.

So the next time you remove the makeup with micellar water, wash it off with a gentle cleanser like Cetaphil to ensure that all the dirt, residue, and oil are gone.

8. Acid Layering can be A Gamechanger

All the exfoliating acids - AHA, PHA, and BHA, can be a powerful part of your skin care routine. But use them wrong and you can completely wreck the skin barrier.

  • BHA first - It would penetrate deep into the pores to then dissolve oil and clear pores.

  • AHA second - Exfoliates surface to reveal a well-textured, bright skin.

  • PHA third - Gently hydrate and then strengthen the skin barriers.

They also suggested using the routine in your PM skin care tradition and to never mix retinol with it.

9. Hydrocolloid Patches are Much Better Than Pimple Creams

We have all been brought up cleaning our entire face and following a rigorous, multi-steps organic skin care routine to get rid of acne. While all we had to do was put on patches!

Hydrocolloid patches tend to

  • Absorb pimple oil and pus overnight

  • Stop you from picking the acne

  • Speed up without overly drying yoir skin

  • Be easy to put makeup on

The one they suggest stocking? COSRX acne patch.

10. Nighttime Skin Care Routine Should be Twice as Long as Morning

Apparently, organic skin care or synthentic skin care works best when the skin is in repair mode. And that is when we sleep!

The four step routine they promote

  • First cleanse - to remove dirt and sunscreen

  • Second cleanse - actual cleansing of the skin

  • Treatment - this is where you use acids, retinols, or peptides

  • Hydration - nourishing stage where you seal everything in with serum or mositurizer.

If there’s one thing I learned after talking to all the dermatologists, it is that great skin care is not about doing more - it’s about doing it consistently. Patiently.

All the dermatologists I talked to believed that the routine, whether through natural skin care or synthetic or even if you use the best skin care, will not show results overnight. So the worst thing we can do in that journey is fall for TikTok remedies or look for quick solutions.

The idea they want us to stick to is working for skin health and not skin treatment or beautification, since real results don’t come from instant gratification, but from long-term care.
