Betaderm 0.1% Cream 20g

Description

Betaderm 0.1% Cream 20g contains betamethasone valerate 1mg/g, a potent topical corticosteroid used to relieve the inflammatory and itch-related symptoms of steroid-responsive skin conditions. It is a prescription-only medicine and must be used strictly as directed by a doctor or pharmacist. This page provides factual product information only and is not medical advice or a recommendation to use this medicine.

How It Works

Betamethasone valerate is a synthetic corticosteroid classified as potent (Group III). Topical corticosteroids act as anti-inflammatory, anti-itch and vasoconstrictive agents. They reduce inflammation in the skin through several mechanisms, including reducing the activity of inflammatory cells and the release of inflammatory mediators. Betaderm treats the symptoms of a skin condition rather than its underlying cause.

Important Information

• Prescription-only medicine. A valid prescription is required to dispense this product in the UAE

• For external use on the skin only. Not for use in or around the eyes

• Not to be used on skin affected by an untreated bacterial, viral or fungal infection

• Potent corticosteroids should be avoided on the face, in skin folds and in the groin unless a doctor specifically directs it, because absorption is higher in these areas

• Prolonged use, use over large areas, or use under occlusion increases the risk of local effects such as skin thinning, and of systemic absorption

• Reported side effects include burning, stinging, local irritation, dryness, folliculitis, changes in skin pigmentation, increased hair growth and skin atrophy

• Use in pregnancy or while breastfeeding should only be considered if a doctor judges the benefit to outweigh the risk. If used while breastfeeding, it should not be applied to the breasts

• Store as directed on the pack and keep out of the reach of children

Always consult a qualified healthcare provider before starting, changing or stopping this medicine. Report any side effect or worsening of your skin to your doctor or pharmacist.

How to Use

Indicated in adults, the elderly and children over 1 year for the relief of the inflammatory and pruritic manifestations of steroid-responsive dermatoses, including atopic dermatitis, seborrhoeic dermatitis, irritant or allergic contact dermatitis, nummular dermatitis (discoid eczema), prurigo nodularis, psoriasis (excluding widespread plaque psoriasis), lichen simplex chronicus, lichen planus and discoid lupus erythematosus.

The manufacturer's product information directs that a thin film be applied to the affected area, with frequency and duration determined by the prescriber. Treatment is normally short-term and is tapered rather than stopped abruptly, because rebound of the underlying condition can occur. If the condition has not improved within 2 to 4 weeks, the diagnosis and treatment should be re-evaluated by a doctor. Do not exceed the dose, area or duration your prescriber has specified.
