Betadine Antiseptic Solution 120ml is a topical povidone-iodine antiseptic that cleanses the skin and helps prevent infection in minor cuts, grazes, burns, and abrasions. Containing 10% w/v povidone-iodine, this broad-spectrum solution is trusted in homes and clinical settings across the UAE for first aid, wound care, and skin disinfection, making it a practical essential to keep in any family first-aid kit.
How It Works
Betadine Antiseptic Solution is an aqueous solution of povidone-iodine, a complex that slowly releases free iodine on contact with the skin. The released iodine acts as a broad-spectrum microbicide, helping to reduce bacteria, viruses, fungi, and other microorganisms on the treated area, which supports the prevention of infection while a minor wound heals. As it dries, the solution leaves a golden-brown film that shows where it has been applied and can later be washed off with water. Unlike alcohol-based products, it is generally non-staining to natural fabrics and is formulated without alcohol or hydrogen peroxide.
Important Information
For external use only. Do not use if you are allergic to iodine or povidone-iodine. Use with caution, and only on the advice of a doctor, if you have a thyroid disorder, are pregnant or breastfeeding, or need to treat large or broken skin areas, as iodine can be absorbed. Avoid prolonged or repeated use over large areas. Keep out of the reach of children and store below 25C, away from direct light. If irritation, redness, or swelling occurs, stop use. Always read the label and consult your pharmacist or healthcare provider before use if you are unsure.
Povidone-iodine 10% w/v (equivalent to 1% available iodine). Povidone-iodine is a chemical complex of povidone (PVP) and iodine, valued for its broad antimicrobial action and gentle, water-based formula that contains no alcohol. The complex acts as a reservoir, releasing iodine gradually so that the antiseptic effect is sustained on the skin surface after application.
1. Clean the affected area, then apply the solution undiluted directly to the skin or minor wound.
2. Allow it to dry, forming a protective film, and cover with a sterile dressing if needed.
3. Apply 1 to 3 times daily, or as directed by a healthcare professional. Wash off excess before using occlusive dressings.
