Description

Diprogenta Ointment (15g) is a prescription-only topical combination medicine by Bayer, containing betamethasone dipropionate 0.05% and gentamicin sulfate 0.1% per gram, indicated for the treatment of corticosteroid-responsive inflammatory skin conditions where bacterial infection is present or suspected. The anhydrous ointment base - composed of mineral oil and white petrolatum - provides an occlusive, moisture-retaining vehicle that is specifically suited to dry, scaly, thickened (lichenified), or chronic eczematous and psoriatic skin lesions, where deeper penetration of the active ingredients and skin hydration are required.

How It Works

Diprogenta Ointment delivers two complementary mechanisms in a single application. Betamethasone dipropionate (0.05%) is a potent, Class III topical corticosteroid that suppresses the inflammatory response by inhibiting the release of pro-inflammatory mediators including prostaglandins and leukotrienes. This reduces the four cardinal signs of skin inflammation: redness, swelling, heat, and itch. Gentamicin sulfate (0.1%) is a broad-spectrum aminoglycoside antibiotic with bactericidal activity against gram-negative bacteria (including Pseudomonas aeruginosa, E. coli, Klebsiella) and gram-positive organisms including staphylococci. Gentamicin kills bacteria by irreversibly binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit, causing misreading of the genetic code and inhibiting protein synthesis. Together, the two active ingredients simultaneously address both the inflammatory and infective components of complicated dermatoses.

Diprogenta Ointment is indicated for:

• Atopic dermatitis (eczema) with secondary bacterial infection

• Contact dermatitis (allergic and irritant) complicated by infection

• Seborrhoeic dermatitis with bacterial superinfection

• Psoriasis with secondary infection on dry or lichenified areas

• Neurodermatitis and other corticosteroid-responsive dermatoses with suspected or confirmed bacterial infection

Important Information

Diprogenta Ointment is contraindicated in viral skin infections (herpes simplex, varicella, vaccinia), fungal infections, tuberculosis of the skin, rosacea, perioral dermatitis, and acne. Do not use if allergic to betamethasone, gentamicin, or any excipient. Prolonged or extensive use can cause skin thinning, stretch marks (striae), and suppression of the body's natural cortisol production (HPA axis suppression) - risks are higher in children, under occlusion, and on facial or flexural skin. Use in children under 2 years is not recommended; in children aged 2-12, apply the minimum effective amount for the shortest possible time. This is a prescription-only medicine. Always consult your healthcare provider before starting, adjusting, or stopping treatment.

Ingredients

Each gram of Diprogenta Ointment contains:

• Betamethasone dipropionate 0.64mg (equivalent to betamethasone 0.5mg / 0.05% w/w) - potent Class III corticosteroid

• Gentamicin sulfate 1.7mg (equivalent to gentamicin base 1mg / 0.1% w/w) - aminoglycoside antibiotic

• Ointment base: Mineral oil and white petrolatum (anhydrous - no water, no preservatives)

How to Use

Apply a thin layer of Diprogenta Ointment to the affected skin area and rub in gently. Use twice daily - morning and evening - or as prescribed by your doctor. Do not apply under occlusive dressings or bandages unless specifically directed by your healthcare provider, as this significantly increases systemic absorption. Avoid application to the face, groin, and axillae unless under close medical supervision. Do not use on open wounds, burns, or broken skin. Wash hands after application unless the hands are the area being treated. Always follow your prescribing doctor's instructions regarding duration of use.
