Description
Edarbyclor is a high-potency fixed-dose combination antihypertensive. It combines Azilsartan Medoxomil, a selective angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB), with Chlorthalidone, a long-acting thiazide-like diuretic. This dual-mechanism approach targets both the hormonal (Renin-Angiotensin System) and the volume-related (renal fluid balance) pathways of blood pressure regulation.
Dosage & Administration
- Starting Dose: 1 tablet (40mg/12.5mg) once daily.
- Method: Administer orally with 200ml of water. Tablets must be swallowed whole; do not crush or chew.
- Timing: Administer in the morning. Due to the diuretic component (Chlorthalidone), morning dosing helps prevent sleep interruption caused by increased nighttime urination.
- Food Intake: May be taken with or without food.
- Missed Dose: If a dose is missed, take it as soon as remembered. If it is nearly time for the next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not double the dose.
Safety & Storage
- Contraindications: Strictly contraindicated in pregnancy (Boxed Warning for fetal toxicity). Also contraindicated in patients with anuria (inability to produce urine) or hypersensitivity to sulfonamide-derived drugs.
- Monitoring: Periodic assessment of serum electrolytes (potassium, sodium) and renal function (creatinine) is required, especially in patients with pre-existing renal impairment.
- Storage: Store at controlled room temperature below 30°C. Keep in the original container to protect from light and moisture.
- Warning: Risk of symptomatic hypotension, particularly in patients who are volume or salt-depleted. Discontinue use immediately if pregnancy is detected.
