Gaviscon Infant - 30 Sachets
Description

Gaviscon Infant 30 Sachets is a clinically trusted reflux suppressant that helps prevent gastric regurgitation in infants and young children by forming a protective gel layer within the stomach. Containing sodium alginate (225 mg) and magnesium alginate (87.5 mg) per sachet, this sugar-free powder for oral suspension works by thickening stomach contents so that milk is less likely to travel back up the oesophagus - reducing the frequency of spit-up episodes and helping your baby feed more comfortably.

How It Works

Gaviscon Infant uses a physical mode of action rather than a chemical one. When the powder mixes with acidic stomach contents, the sodium alginate and magnesium alginate react to form a viscous gel. This gel stabilises the stomach contents and makes it significantly harder for feeds to reflux back into the food pipe. Clinical evidence shows that the number of regurgitation episodes can be reduced by nearly two-thirds with regular use, offering meaningful relief for both baby and parent.

Important Information

Gaviscon Infant should only be used under medical supervision for infants under 12 months of age. Do not use this product alongside other feed thickening agents or infant milk preparations that already contain a thickening agent, as this may make stomach contents too thick and cause discomfort. Consult your doctor or pharmacist if your baby has kidney problems, is on a low-sodium diet, or shows signs of dehydration, fever, or persistent changes in bowel habits. A medical review should be undertaken if symptoms persist beyond seven days or worsen at any point. Store below 30 degrees Celsius and keep out of reach of children. Always consult your healthcare provider before starting any new medication for your infant.

Ingredients

Each unit dose sachet contains two reflux suppressants that work together:

• Sodium Alginate (225 mg) - derived from natural seaweed cell walls, it reacts with stomach acid to create a protective gel barrier on top of stomach contents

• Magnesium Alginate (87.5 mg) - complements sodium alginate to strengthen the gel formation and further stabilise feeds within the stomach

The formulation is sugar-free and contains approximately 23.9 mg sodium per sachet. It also contains mannitol and colloidal silica as excipients.

How to Use

For infants aged 1 to 2 years. Not to be used in premature infants or infants under one year except under medical supervision.

1. Determine dose by weight - infants under 4.5 kg receive one sachet per feed; infants over 4.5 kg receive two sachets per feed

2. For bottle-fed infants - mix each sachet into 115 ml of feed in the bottle and shake well before feeding as normal

3. For breastfed infants - mix each sachet with 5 ml of cooled, boiled water to form a smooth paste, then add another 10 ml of cooled, boiled water and mix well

4. Administer partway through each breastfeed or at the end of each bottle feed using a spoon or feeding bottle

5. Do not administer more than six times in 24 hours

6. Prepare fresh immediately before each use - do not store mixed sachets
