Description
Glucophage 850mg tablets contain metformin hydrochloride, a biguanide pharmacological agent indicated for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus. This treatment provides physiological support by decreasing hepatic glucose production, reducing intestinal absorption of glucose, and improving insulin sensitivity by increasing peripheral glucose uptake and utilization. It is utilized as a primary intervention for glycemic control when lifestyle modifications, such as diet and exercise, prove insufficient.
Dosage & Administration
For precise regulation of blood glucose levels and minimization of gastrointestinal adverse effects, adhere to the following protocols:
- Initial Adult Dosage: Administer 850mg (1 tablet) once or twice per day.
- Maximum Daily Dose: Do not exceed 2550mg (3 tablets) per day, administered in divided doses.
- Timing: Administer during or after meals to ensure optimal gastrointestinal tolerance.
- Method of Administration: Swallow the tablet whole with water. Do not crush or chew to prevent rapid release and localized irritation.
- Frequency: Standard therapeutic regimens involve administration 2 to 3 times daily with food.
Safety & Storage
- Monitoring: Periodic assessment of Vitamin B12 levels and renal function (serum creatinine/eGFR) is clinically indicated during long-term therapy.
- Storage: Store at room temperature below 30°C. Protect from moisture and keep out of reach of children.
