Glucovance 500mg/5mg is a fixed-dose combination antihyperglycemic agent containing Metformin Hydrochloride and Glibenclamide (Glyburide). It provides physiological support for patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus by utilizing two distinct mechanisms: increasing peripheral insulin sensitivity and stimulating pancreatic insulin secretion.

Dosage & Administration

• Dosage: 1 tablet (500mg/5mg) per administration.
• Frequency: Once or twice daily, as directed by clinical assessment.
• Method: Administer orally with 200ml of water. Swallow the tablet whole; do not crush or chew.
• Timing: Administer with meals (typically breakfast and/or dinner) to optimize absorption and minimize the risk of hypoglycemia and gastrointestinal distress.

Safety & Storage

• Contraindications: Prohibited in patients with severe renal impairment (eGFR <30 mL/min), hepatic failure, or acute metabolic acidosis. Not for use in Type 1 Diabetes.
• Storage: Store at controlled room temperature below 30°C in a dry environment.
• Warning: Risk of hypoglycemia; ensure regular caloric intake. Monitor for signs of lactic acidosis, particularly in patients with renal dysfunction.
