Description
Hidrasec 100mg Capsules offer targeted symptomatic relief from acute diarrhoea in adults, helping to reduce excess fluid loss so you can recover more comfortably. Each capsule contains racecadotril 100mg, an intestinal antisecretory agent that works alongside oral rehydration to manage sudden, short-term diarrhoea.
How It Works
Racecadotril is a prodrug of thiorphan, which acts as a selective intestinal enkephalinase inhibitor. By reducing the hypersecretion of water and electrolytes into the intestine caused by inflammation or toxins, it provides a rapid antidiarrhoeal effect without slowing the normal transit time through the digestive tract or affecting basal secretion. This targeted, antisecretory action sets it apart from medicines that simply slow gut movement, which is why it tends not to cause the rebound constipation sometimes linked to those treatments. The result is reduced fluid loss while your body recovers from a short-term episode of diarrhoea.
Important Information
Do not use Hidrasec if you are allergic to racecadotril or any of the ingredients. Speak to your doctor or pharmacist before use if there is blood or pus in your stools or you have a fever, if you have prolonged vomiting, or if you have kidney or liver problems. It is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or for chronic or antibiotic-associated diarrhoea, due to limited data. See a doctor if diarrhoea lasts more than 3 days or is severe. Possible side effects include headache, nausea and, less commonly, skin reactions. Always read the patient information leaflet and consult your healthcare provider.
Ingredients
• Racecadotril 100mg - an intestinal antisecretory antidiarrhoeal agent
• Reduces secretion of water and electrolytes in the intestine without affecting gut motility
• Other ingredients include lactose monohydrate, pregelatinised maize starch, magnesium stearate and colloidal anhydrous silica
How to Use
Always take Hidrasec exactly as advised by your doctor or pharmacist. For adults:
1. Take one capsule initially, at any time of day.
2. Then take one capsule three times a day, preferably before the main meals.
3. Continue treatment until two normal stools occur, and use alongside oral rehydration salts (ORS) to replace lost fluids.
Treatment should not last longer than 7 days. Hidrasec does not replace the need for rehydration, which is the most important part of managing diarrhoea.
