Description
Janumet XR 100mg/1000mg is a fixed-dose combination pharmacotherapy containing Sitagliptin and Metformin Hydrochloride Extended-Release. This formulation addresses Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus by providing physiological support through two synergistic pathways: Sitagliptin (a DPP-4 inhibitor) enhances incretin hormone levels to stimulate insulin synthesis, while Metformin (a biguanide) reduces hepatic glucose production and improves peripheral insulin sensitivity.
Dosage & Administration
- 1 tablet per day.
- Administer orally as a single dose.
- Timing: Must be taken once daily with a meal, preferably in the evening, to minimize gastrointestinal side effects and maintain the integrity of the extended-release cycle.
- Swallow whole: Do not crush, chew, or break the tablet. The extended-release delivery system requires an intact tablet to release active ingredients over a 24-hour period.
- Hydration: Administer with 200ml of water.
Safety & Storage
- Warning (Lactic Acidosis): Metformin-associated lactic acidosis is a serious metabolic complication. Risk increases with renal dysfunction, sepsis, and excessive alcohol intake.
- Adverse Reactions: May include diarrhea, nausea, hypoglycemia (when used with sulfonylureas), and nasopharyngitis. Discontinue use if symptoms of pancreatitis occur.
- Storage: Store at controlled room temperature below 30°C. Maintain in original packaging to protect from moisture.
