Lamisil 1% Cream (15g) is a clinically proven topical antifungal by Novartis containing terbinafine hydrochloride 10mg per gram (1% w/w), formulated as a smooth, easily absorbed cream for the targeted treatment of five fungal skin conditions: athlete's foot (tinea pedis), jock itch (tinea cruris), ringworm (tinea corporis), pityriasis (tinea) versicolor, and cutaneous yeast infections caused by Candida. The cream format allows for precise, rubbed-in application to defined skin patches, making it particularly effective for localised infections on the body, groin, trunk, and limbs.
How It Works
Terbinafine hydrochloride belongs to the allylamine class of antifungals and acts by inhibiting squalene epoxidase, a critical enzyme in fungal ergosterol synthesis. This disrupts the fungal cell membrane, causing both ergosterol deficiency and a toxic accumulation of squalene that leads directly to fungal cell death. Unlike fungistatic agents that merely slow fungal growth, terbinafine is fungicidal against dermatophytes - which means the infection is killed at the source. Clinical studies have shown Lamisil 1% Cream achieves mycological cure rates of 70-90% across tinea and candida infections, and that just one week of treatment outperforms four weeks of clotrimazole 1% cream for tinea pedis. After completing treatment, terbinafine continues to provide residual protection in the skin for up to 3 months, helping to prevent recurrence.
Ideal For
Lamisil 1% Cream is suitable for adults requiring targeted, once or twice daily topical treatment of localised fungal skin infections. It is the preferred choice over spray for infections on larger defined body patches, areas where direct skin contact is needed for optimal penetration, or conditions such as pityriasis versicolor where precise cream application over discoloured skin areas is advantageous. Do not use near the eyes, inside the nose or mouth, or on the scalp or nails. Consult your healthcare provider if symptoms do not improve within 2 weeks (jock itch, ringworm) or 4 weeks (athlete's foot). Not recommended for use while breastfeeding. Store below 25 degrees C.
Each gram of cream contains:
• Terbinafine hydrochloride 10mg (1% w/w) - fungicidal allylamine active
• Excipients: Sorbitan monostearate, cetyl palmitate, cetyl alcohol, stearyl alcohol, polysorbate 60, isopropyl myristate, sodium hydroxide, purified water, benzyl alcohol (preservative)
1. Cleanse and thoroughly dry the affected skin and surrounding area
2. Apply a thin layer of cream to the affected skin and rub in gently
3. For intertriginous infections (skin folds, groin, between toes), a gauze strip may be used to cover the area, particularly overnight
4. Apply once or twice daily as directed; treatment duration varies by indication: 1 week for tinea cruris and corporis, 1-2 weeks for pityriasis versicolor, up to 4 weeks for athlete's foot
