How It Works

Terbinafine hydrochloride belongs to the allylamine class of antifungal agents and works by specifically inhibiting squalene epoxidase, a key enzyme in the biosynthesis of ergosterol within the fungal cell membrane. This dual action causes both ergosterol deficiency and toxic accumulation of squalene inside the fungal cell, leading to cell death rather than merely inhibiting growth. Unlike fungistatic agents, terbinafine is fungicidal against dermatophytes - the primary cause of tinea infections - which contributes to the short 7-day treatment course and helps prevent recurrence.

Ideal For

Lamisil 1% Spray is suitable for adults and children aged 16 years and above. It is ideal for those who prefer a hygienic, no-touch application format, those with infections in hard-to-reach areas, and anyone seeking a short-course treatment for common fungal skin infections. It relieves the five most bothersome symptoms associated with tinea infections: itching, burning, cracking, scaling, and redness. Do not use on nails or scalp, or near eyes or mouth. Each 1ml of spray solution contains:

• Terbinafine hydrochloride 10mg (equivalent to 1% w/w)

• Excipients: Purified water, ethanol (23.5%), propylene glycol, cetomacrogol 1000

1. Clean and thoroughly dry the affected skin and surrounding area before application

2. Hold the bottle upright or inverted and spray from approximately 5-10cm distance to thoroughly wet the affected area

3. Allow to dry naturally - no rubbing required

4. Apply once daily for 7 days for athlete's foot, jock itch, and ringworm

5. Wash hands after treating the infected area to prevent spread

6. Continue for the full 7-day course even if symptoms improve earlier
