Movicol Paediatric Plain 6.9g is a macrogol 3350 based osmotic laxative that gives children gentle, effective relief from constipation. Each sugar-free, flavour-free sachet dissolves in water to soften stools and restore comfortable bowel movements in children aged 1 to 11 years, making it a trusted choice for parents across the UAE managing chronic constipation or faecal impaction under medical guidance.
How It Works
Movicol Paediatric Plain works by osmosis. The macrogol 3350 holds water within the bowel rather than being absorbed, so the extra fluid softens hardened stools and increases their volume. This gently stimulates the bowel to pass the softened stool comfortably, even after long-standing constipation. The added electrolytes help keep the child's salt and fluid balance steady during treatment.
Important Information
Movicol Paediatric Plain is for children aged 1 to 11 years; adults and children over 12 should use the standard 13.8g Movicol instead. Do not give it if your child has an intestinal blockage or perforation, or a known allergy to any ingredient. Make sure your child keeps drinking plenty of fluids during treatment. Mild tummy ache, bloating, wind, nausea, or loose stools can occur and usually settle when the dose is reduced. Some medicines taken by mouth may be less effective around the same time as large doses. Stop use and contact a doctor at once if your child shows signs of a serious allergic reaction. Always consult your healthcare provider before starting, and seek advice if symptoms persist.
Each 6.9g sachet of powder for oral solution contains:
• Macrogol 3350 (6.563 g): the active osmotic agent that draws and holds water in the bowel to soften stools.
• Sodium chloride, sodium bicarbonate and potassium chloride: electrolytes that help maintain the body's salt and fluid balance during treatment.
• Sugar-free and flavour-free: the Plain formulation contains no added flavouring or sweetener, useful for children who prefer a neutral taste or need to avoid sugar.
Always give Movicol Paediatric Plain exactly as advised by your doctor or pharmacist. A general guide is:
1. Chronic constipation, children 1 to 6 years: usually 1 sachet daily, adjusted to produce regular soft stools.
2. Chronic constipation, children 7 to 11 years: usually 2 sachets daily, adjusted as needed.
3. Dissolve the contents of each sachet in about 62.5 ml (a quarter glass) of water and stir until clear or slightly hazy, then give it to your child to drink.
4. Faecal impaction (ages 5 to 11) follows a separate higher-dose, short-course schedule and should only be done on medical advice.
