Navela 1.5mg Tab is an emergency contraceptive containing levonorgestrel, a proven synthetic progestogen that helps prevent pregnancy when taken within 72 hours (3 days) after unprotected sexual intercourse or contraceptive failure. Available as a single film-coated tablet, Navela prevents approximately 85% of expected pregnancies and is most effective when taken as soon as possible - ideally within the first 12 hours after unprotected sex.
How It Works
Navela 1.5mg works primarily by preventing or delaying the release of an egg from the ovary (ovulation). It may also prevent sperm from fertilising an egg that has already been released, or prevent a fertilised egg from attaching to the uterine lining. The mode of action is similar to that of regular hormonal birth control pills but delivered in a single higher dose for emergency use. Navela does not terminate an existing pregnancy - if fertilisation and implantation have already occurred, the tablet will not be effective.
Important Information
Navela 1.5mg is intended for emergency use only and is not a substitute for regular contraceptive methods. It does not protect against sexually transmitted infections (STIs) including HIV/AIDS. Do not take this tablet if you are already pregnant, as it will not terminate an existing pregnancy. Common side effects may include nausea, headache, fatigue, lower abdominal pain, dizziness, and changes to your next menstrual period (earlier, later, or heavier than usual). If your period is more than seven days late after taking Navela, take a pregnancy test and consult your healthcare provider. Women who are breastfeeding should consult their doctor before use. Store at room temperature away from moisture and heat. Always consult your healthcare provider for guidance on emergency contraception and to discuss long-term contraceptive options.
Each tablet contains:
• Levonorgestrel (1.5 mg) - a synthetic progestogen that has been used safely in hormonal contraceptives for over 35 years. It is the same active ingredient found in Plan B One-Step and other globally recognised emergency contraceptive brands. Clinical studies confirm that the single 1.5 mg dose is as effective as the older two-dose regimen while being more convenient.
