How It Works
The active ingredient xylometazoline hydrochloride is a topical sympathomimetic that binds to alpha-adrenergic receptors in the nasal mucosa, constricting the dilated blood vessels that cause nasal swelling. This rapidly reduces congestion, opens airways and facilitates sinus drainage. Menthol works alongside it by stimulating cold-temperature receptors in the nose, creating a sensation of cooler, easier airflow and freshness with every breath.
Important Information
Otrivin Menthol Nasal Spray is not suitable for children under 12 or for people allergic to xylometazoline. Use with caution if you have high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, hyperthyroidism, diabetes or are taking MAO inhibitors or tricyclic antidepressants. Avoid prolonged or excessive use as this can cause rebound congestion. Consult your doctor or pharmacist before use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Stop use and seek medical advice if symptoms persist beyond 10 days or if irritation occurs.
Each 1 ml of metered-dose nasal solution contains:
• Xylometazoline hydrochloride 1 mg/ml (0.1% w/v): a clinically proven topical nasal decongestant that acts locally on the nasal mucosa without systemic absorption.
• Menthol: provides a cooling sensation and the perception of improved nasal airflow.
• Excipients: benzalkonium chloride (preservative), sodium dihydrogen phosphate dihydrate, disodium phosphate dodecahydrate, disodium edetate, sodium chloride, sorbitol 70%, methylhydroxypropylcellulose and purified water.
Each metered dose delivers approximately 0.14 ml of solution. Manufactured for Haleon, distributed in the UAE.
For adults and children aged 12 years and over. Always follow the patient leaflet or your pharmacist's advice.
1. Gently blow your nose to clear it before use.
2. Hold the bottle upright. Before first use, prime the pump with a few pumps until an even spray emerges.
3. Insert the nozzle into one nostril, lean slightly forward and press the pump while breathing in gently through the nose.
4. Repeat with the other nostril. Use one spray per nostril, up to 3 times daily.
5. Do not exceed 3 applications per nostril in 24 hours, and do not use for more than 10 consecutive days.
6. Clean the nozzle after each use and replace the cap. The bottle should be used by only one person to avoid spreading infection.
