Description
Pantoloc 40mg tablets contain pantoprazole sodium sesquihydrate, a substituted benzimidazole that functions as a potent proton pump inhibitor. This medication provides targeted physiological support for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), gastric and duodenal ulcers, and pathological hypersecretory conditions such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. It works by inhibiting the ATPase enzyme system at the secretory surface of the gastric parietal cell to reduce gastric acid production.
Dosage & Administration
For precise therapeutic action and gastric acid suppression, follow these administration protocols:
- Adults and Adolescents (12 years and older): Administer 1 tablet (40mg) per day for the treatment of reflux esophagitis.
- Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome: Start with 2 tablets (80mg) per day, then titrate dosage based on clinical response.
- Timing: Administer 1 hour before a meal (typically breakfast) to ensure maximal inhibition of proton pumps.
- Method of Administration: Swallow tablets whole with water. Do not crush or chew the tablets, as the enteric coating is essential for protecting the active ingredient from gastric acid.
- Frequency: Standard treatment involves 1 dose per day unless otherwise directed by a healthcare professional.
Safety & Storage
- Contraindications: Do not administer to patients with known hypersensitivity to pantoprazole, substituted benzimidazoles, or any inactive ingredients.
- Hepatic Impairment: Patients with severe liver impairment should not exceed a dose of 20mg daily (or one 40mg tablet every other day).
- Interactions: May reduce the absorption of pH-dependent medications such as ketoconazole or certain antiretrovirals.
- Storage: Store at a temperature not exceeding 30°C. Protect from moisture and keep out of reach of children.
