How It Works

Permethrin is a synthetic pyrethroid that targets the nervous system of parasites. It disrupts the sodium channels in the nerve cells of the scabies mite and lice, causing delayed repolarisation, paralysis and death of the parasite. Because it acts across the life cycle, this permethrin 5% lotion helps clear both the adult mites and their eggs, addressing the root cause of the infestation rather than only the symptoms.

Important Information

This product is for external use only and is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or for children under two months of age, unless directed by a doctor. It is contraindicated in anyone with a known hypersensitivity to permethrin, other synthetic pyrethroids, pyrethrins or chrysanthemums. Mild burning, stinging, tingling, redness or itching at the application site can occur and usually settles quickly. Itching may continue for up to four weeks after successful treatment as the skin heals, and this does not necessarily mean treatment has failed. To prevent reinfestation, wash bedding, towels and clothing in hot water and treat close contacts as advised. Keep out of reach of children and consult a healthcare provider before use if you are unsure about suitability.

This anti-scabies lotion is built around a single clinically recognised active, supported by stabilising preservatives:

Use only as directed by your doctor or pharmacist. A general approach is:

1. Shake the bottle well before use. Make sure skin is clean, dry and cool.

2. Apply a thin layer over the entire body from the neck down, paying close attention to skin folds, finger and toe webs, under the nails and the soles. In infants and older adults the scalp, neck, face and ears may also need treatment as advised.

3. Leave the lotion on the skin for the period recommended by your healthcare provider, typically around 8 to 14 hours.

4. Wash off thoroughly with a bath or shower and change into clean clothes.

A single application is often effective, but a second application about a week later may be advised if live mites reappear. For external use only - avoid contact with the eyes and do not use in the mouth.
