Yasmin 21s Tablets are a combined oral contraceptive from Bayer, used to prevent pregnancy when taken as directed by a healthcare professional. Each film-coated tablet contains drospirenone 3mg and ethinylestradiol 0.03mg, two hormones that work together to provide reliable, reversible contraception. Taken once daily for 21 days followed by a 7-day break, Yasmin is also used to help regulate the menstrual cycle. This medicine should be used under medical supervision.

How It Works

Yasmin prevents pregnancy through three complementary actions. It suppresses ovulation, so the ovaries do not release an egg; it thickens cervical mucus, making it harder for sperm to reach the uterus; and it alters the lining of the womb, making implantation less likely. When taken correctly, combined oral contraceptives like Yasmin are more than 99 percent effective at preventing pregnancy.

Important Information

Yasmin is a prescription medicine and should only be used under the guidance of a healthcare provider. Do not use it if you are pregnant, have had blood clots, stroke, or certain cancers, or if you are over 35 and smoke, as combined pills raise the risk of blood clots. Tell your doctor about any medical conditions or other medicines you take. Common side effects include headache, nausea, breast tenderness, mood changes, and irregular bleeding. Seek emergency care for signs of a blood clot such as severe leg pain, chest pain, or breathlessness. Store below 30C and keep out of reach of children.

Each active tablet contains two hormones: drospirenone 3mg, a progestogen, and ethinylestradiol 0.03mg, an oestrogen. Drospirenone also has mild anti-androgen and anti-mineralocorticoid activity, which is why Yasmin may help some women with acne or fluid-related premenstrual symptoms. A 21-tablet pack supports one treatment cycle. Beyond contraception, a doctor may prescribe Yasmin to help with:

• Irregular or heavy menstrual periods

• Menstrual cramps and premenstrual symptoms

• Moderate acne in women who also want contraception

Yasmin does not protect against HIV or other sexually transmitted infections.

Take one tablet at the same time each day for 21 consecutive days, with or without food, then have a 7-day break before starting your next pack. Follow the order on the blister and the schedule your doctor gives you. If you start on the first day of your period, protection is immediate; starting later may require backup contraception for 7 days. If you miss a pill, refer to the patient leaflet or ask your pharmacist.
