Imavir 5% Skin Cream 15g is a topical antiviral treatment containing 5% acyclovir (50mg per gram) that targets cold sores and herpes labialis caused by the herpes simplex virus. Applied at the first tingle, it helps slow viral spread and supports faster healing of lip and facial lesions for adults and adolescents in the UAE.
How It Works
Acyclovir is a herpes simplex virus DNA polymerase inhibitor. Inside infected cells it is converted by viral thymidine kinase into its active form, which blocks viral DNA synthesis and slows the growth and spread of the virus. Imavir does not cure herpes, as the virus remains dormant in the body, but early use can shorten the discomfort of a cold sore outbreak and help blisters heal more quickly.
Important Information

• The most common side effects are mild burning, stinging, itching or dryness at the application site

Always follow the directions given by your doctor or pharmacist. The typical adult and adolescent regimen is:
1. Wash your hands with soap and water, then clean and dry the affected area.
2. Apply a thin layer of Imavir cream to the cold sore or impending lesion.
3. Repeat five times daily at roughly four-hourly intervals, omitting the night-time application.
4. Continue treatment for at least four days for herpes labialis, starting as early as possible at the prodrome or tingling stage.
5. Wash your hands again after each application. Avoid contact with the eyes, inside the mouth or nose.
