Zaditen Syrup 1mg/5ml 100ml
Description

Zaditen Syrup 1mg/5ml 100ml is a strawberry-flavoured oral solution containing ketotifen, an antihistamine and mast cell stabiliser used to help prevent allergic symptoms and asthma attacks in children. Manufactured by Novartis, this prescription syrup supports the long-term management of allergic conditions such as allergic rhinitis and bronchial asthma when taken regularly as directed by a doctor, making it a trusted option for parents managing a child's recurring allergy and wheezing symptoms.

How It Works

Ketotifen works in two ways. It blocks the action of histamine, the natural chemical responsible for itching, sneezing, and a runny nose, and it stabilises mast cells so they release fewer of the substances that trigger airway inflammation and bronchospasm. Because Zaditen Syrup is a preventive treatment rather than a rescue medicine, it is taken every day and may need several weeks of regular use before its full protective benefit against allergic and asthma symptoms becomes noticeable. It does not stop an attack that has already started.

Important Information

Zaditen Syrup does not relieve an asthma attack that is already in progress, so a fast-acting reliever inhaler is still required for sudden symptoms. It may cause drowsiness, particularly in the first one to two weeks of treatment, which usually eases as the body adjusts. This is a prescription-only medicine in the UAE. Always consult your healthcare provider or pharmacist before use, especially during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or if there is a history of epilepsy or seizures. Store the syrup below 25 degrees C, away from heat and direct light, and keep it out of the reach of children.

Ingredients

Each 5ml of Zaditen Syrup contains:

• Ketotifen (as hydrogen fumarate) 1mg per 5ml, an anti-allergic antihistamine and mast cell stabiliser that reduces the frequency and severity of allergic and asthmatic episodes

The syrup also contains excipients including strawberry flavour, citric acid, sorbitol solution, sodium phosphate, methyl and propyl parahydroxybenzoate, sucrose, ethanol, and purified water. Its pleasant strawberry taste helps make regular dosing easier for children. The syrup should not be used by anyone sensitive to benzoate compounds, and patients with sugar intolerance should speak to their doctor first.

How to Use

Always follow the dose prescribed by your doctor. General guidance is as follows:

1. Children aged 3 years and over: 1mg (5ml) twice daily, once in the morning and once in the evening.

2. Children aged 6 months to 3 years: the dose is based on body weight and must be determined by the doctor.

3. Take the syrup with food, and continue treatment regularly without stopping suddenly unless advised by a doctor.
